Lewnard group at the University of California, Berkeley

My group studies the natural history, transmission dynamics, and control of infectious diseases in the School of Public Health and the Center for Computational Biology at UC Berkeley.

In collaboration with Dr. Sara Tartof at Kaiser Permanente Southern California, I co-lead the California Center for Outbreak Response, a Center for Innovation within CDC’s InsightNet network for outbreak analytics and infectious disease modeling.

My work has centered on pediatric infectious diseases and vaccines against them, in particular pneumococcus (Streptococcus pneumoniae), COVID-19, RSV, and group A Streptococcus. I am also interested in statistical methods for vaccine efficacy and effectiveness studies.
